Kolkata: The claim of the Opposition that their candidates could not file nominations due to ‘a reign of terror’ unleashed by Trinamool Congress in Nadia, can be easily proved wrong if one browses through the documents related to the nomination papers filed by the candidates. In the three-tier Panchayat election that includes Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samity and Zilla Parishad, BJP has fielded candidates in all the seats and ranks second after Trinamool Congress. For these seats, BJP has fielded 425 candidates, followed by CPI-M in 366 seats and Congress in 65 seats. Trinamool Congress had fielded 631 candidates for the same.In Zilla Parishad, there are 47 seats, for which BJP has fielded 23 candidates, followed by CPI-M in 43 seats and Congress in 13 seats. Trinamool Congress has fielded 50 candidates.The statistics show that the strength of Left Front and Congress has hit rock bottom in Nadia, which was once a stronghold for both the parties. Nadia district consists of 18 blocks. The number of Gram Panchayats will be around 185. The district administration said there were no incidents of violence and members of all the parties had gone to the SDO’s office to file nomination peacefully.Because of its organisational strength, Trinamool Congress is ahead of its competitors in campaigns. The party’s candidates have already started their door-to-door campaigns.
