first_imgVANCOUVER – The Clark County Historical Museum is planning a field trip for its next First Thursday event. The Museum After Hours program, held on the first Thursday of the month, will be at 6 p.m. at Columbia Springs, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway.Columbia Springs is a nonprofit with a mission of providing a setting where educational experiences foster greater awareness of the natural world. The goal is to inspire stewardship and work toward a community that protects the environment for future generations. This First Thursday program will be free, since the site is a park within the city limits of Vancouver; it is open to the public daily, from dawn to dusk. The historic elements of the site are linked to its role as the Vancouver Trout Hatchery, which was built in 1938 as part of the Works Progress Administration during President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal.As a natural resource, the site contributes to the city’s total tree canopy cover, filters stormwater before it reaches the Columbia River and provides habitat for wildlife.Contact the museum at [email protected] or by phone at 360-993-5679.last_img
