Yukon family hopes new cold case unit solves fathers murder

first_imgShirley McLeanAPTN NewThere have been 35 homicide investigations in the Yukon since 2000 with 12 remaining unsolved.One family is hopeful they will soon have justice in the killing of their father as a new RCMP cold case unit opens in the territory.“Our dad was taken from us May of 2014 from this community and we really don’t have answers about what happened and were still waiting,” said Dawn Waugh of her father Allan.The RCMP hasn’t told the family how their father died but did rule it a homicide.The unknown weighs on them.“Unfortunately your mind can be pretty cruel to you you’ll sit there and imagine of what could have happened. I have different scenarios in my mind,” said Theresa Waugh.The Yukon government announced earlier this month it will provide funds to the RCMP to develop a new three-person investigative unit to focus on cold cases over three years.“Were really hopeful that with this new money that has been announced and the new position that more energy be put back into these older cases,” said [email protected]last_img
