Former LSU Tigers Tyrann Mathieu Arrested

Former LSU Tigers cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has all but sure eliminated the possible return to the team after being arrested Thursday on drug-related charges along with three former Tigers. In a statement from the Baton Rouge Police Department, former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and Mathieu were charged with simple possession of marijuana. Former Tigers linebacker Karnell Hatcher was also arrested and charged with simple possession, while former defensive back Derrick Bryant is facing the heaviest charge of possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.Police reported receiving a phone call to the apartment complex in which Mathieu occupied, after an unknown male forced his way through the security gate,  later to be  identified as Jefferson by BRPD.The police went to 20-year-old Mathieu’s apartment and when he answered the door officers could smell a high presence of marijuana. Mathieu gave consent for authorities to search the apartment and they discovered a marijuana grinder, a digital scale and 10 bags of high-grade marijuana, seven of which were found in Bryant’s backpack.Mathieu, who is better known as the “Honey Badger,” was kicked off the team by head coach Les Miles for failing multiple drug tests. The 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist entered a drug rehabilitation center and enrolled back into LSU as a regular student with hopes of returning to the field in 2013.Even if Mathieu had not been arrested Thursday, his return could have been more complicated than thought.  In a recent feature on Mathieu in Sports Illustrated, the article alleges he engaged in impermissible promotional activities – mainly involving a group called New Era of which Mathieu was a member – among other things. The article describes Mathieu using his notoriety to advertise parties for Era Nation and The Palace, a club in the Baton Rouge area.  They added that Mathieu knew pictures taken of him would be used for promotional purposes since he received access to the club’s VIP area. With the release of this article putting Mathieu’s eligibility on the line with a possible return to football, the Mathieu family took issue with the claims by the magazine.“The twisted things and cobbled together details from past articles because we wouldn’t sit down with them,” Sheila Mathieu told Fox 8 Sports. “We have always believed in being a tight-knit family. God first, family second, work and school third. That’s what Tyrann is doing now, and he’s on an avenue to success, make good grades and putting his life in order.”One thing is evident for the former LSU punt returner and game changer, his ‘avenue to success’ has taken another major hit.  This latest arrest has possibly ended his career as a college football player and any aspirations of reaching the NFL. read more

Best New Desktop Computers for Your Business

first_imgAsus ET2701Image courtesy of AsusBudget CoolAsus ET2701 ($1,299)The Asus looks and sounds pricier than it is, thanks to a bright, 27-inch LED-backlit touch display with a 178-degree viewing angle and a Sonic Master audio system that powers an external subwoofer. The substandard 1920 x 1080 resolution (which, by the way, still beats most flat-screen TVs) accounts for the lower price.Key specs: 2 TB hard drive; 8 GB RAM; DVD/Blu-Ray read/write drive; four USB drives; 2 megapixel webcam; HDMI input; external subwoofer; optional TV tuner  The hype over tablets and smartphones can’t overcome this basic reality: For accessing CDs, multitasking or creating and managing massive spreadsheets or graphic files, the desktop computer is still king. And within this segment, the number of shipments of sleek all-in-one PCs — loaded with DVD-RW drives, lightning-fast processors, gigantic hard drives and cinema-worthy screens — will grow an estimated 20 percent this year over last. One look at our gorgeous selection, and it’s easy to see why. You should consider it as well. With a slimmer posture than other models, this 23-inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution touchscreen can handle portrait or landscape orientation. Its plastic housing may look dated, but its durable and reliable 256 GB self-encrypting solid-state drive means there’s serious computing power under the hood.Key Specs: 1 TB hard drive; 16 GB DDR3 memory; DVD+/-RW drive; six USB drives; 2 megapixel webcam This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to authentically connect with an increasingly skeptical online audience. Dell XPS One 27Image courtesy of DellMultimedia MogulDell XPS One 27 ($2,000)It’s hard to tell if the 27-inch Dell is a TV or a PC, and perhaps that’s the point. Equipped with a TV tuner, Blu-Ray drive and remote control, it’s ideal for playing games or editing video. The 2560 x 1440 resolution display, gobs of RAM and an Nvidia 2 GB graphics card, along with an Intel Core i7 processor, prove brilliantly suited for the task. Bonus: optional touchscreen input means it can take advantage of Windows 8’s finger-worthy features.Key specs: 2 TB hard drive; 16 GB DDR3 memory; DVD+/-RW Blu-Ray Combo drive; four USB 3.0 drives; 1080p HD webcam; HDMI in/out; optional TV tuner This story appears in the November 2012 issue of . Why? Developers have yet to build business-centric desktop programs that capitalize on touch. When they do, the A720 will be ready. Key specs: 1 TB hard disk drive; 8 GB DDR3 memory; DVD+/-RW Blu-Ray Combo drive; four USB drives; 720p HD webcam; HDMI in/out; optional TV tuner   Free Workshop | August 28: Get Better Engagement and Build Trust With Customers Now 3 min read December 4, 2012 Enroll Now for Freelast_img read more

Why eBays Exact Project Isnt the 3D Printing Solution for the Masses

first_img Enroll Now for Free This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to authentically connect with an increasingly skeptical online audience. July 16, 2013 3-D printing is starting to enter the mainstream, and startups in the space are making news with mergers, acquisitions and new products being announced seemingly every day. Now comes a partnership between online retail and reselling giant eBay and 3-D startups MakerBot, Sculpteo and Hot Pop Factory to create eBay Exact, an iOS app that allows users to browse and buy custom-created merchandise. You might think: Finally, 3-D printing for the masses unable to plunk down thousands for their own printer. Upon closer inspection, however, we’re not convinced that eBay Exact is worthy of breaking out the champagne. At least not yet, anyway. After downloading the app, you see there are fewer than 20 items available for purchase, ranging from iPhone cases to jewelry, and users must choose from existing templates. Some might find the “customize” option somewhat disappointing for most items, since in many instances it allows only a choice of colors or finishes. In the case of one avant-garde wooden necklace, the only option was a gold or silver chain. Custom iPhone cases allow for more creativity, with your choice of several colors and styles of case, adjustable shapes and the option to add a name or other statement.Related: How 3-D Printing Is Becoming a Game-Changer Across IndustriesThe eBay Exact app is free to download, and prices for items range from $9 for an iPhone case to $350 for a metal ring. Purchased items are shipped directly from the manufacturer, with promised delivery within two weeks. While the eBay Exact app might not be the incredible print-things-from-your-iPhone app one might have wished for, it’s a start. The app’s appeal largely lies in how you can order goods that are created specifically for you by a 3-D printer, even if it isn’t from your personal printer. For now, eBay Exact is largely a novelty item, selling novelty items, but it does certainly open up some interesting future possibilities for small businesses and manufacturers. And this partnership can be another opportunity for startups in the 3-D space to leverage eBay’s gravitas in online retail to highlight some of their own products and capabilities. And shopping sites like Shapeways already bring 3-D printing to consumers, and offer apps that allow users to easily design items for Shapeways to print. But the idea that someone could conceive of an idea, open an app on their smartphone, design the object and have it printed and sent to them creates numerous entrepreneurial opportunities.Related: 3-D Printing Startup MakerBot Acquired for $403 Million Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. 3 min read Free Workshop | August 28: Get Better Engagement and Build Trust With Customers Nowlast_img read more
